Foreword to INUA
When I am in nature, I am fascinated by the traces that testify to the passage of time. The short and long intervals of time are reflected around us in large and small things. I experience the traces of time and the forces of nature most clearly when I am in the Greenlandic nature.
Greenland is a completely unique place in the world. Not only do the climatic conditions create a unique nature, but also geologically the country is something quite special. The oldest rocks in the world are found in Greenland. And the tectonic migration from the bottom of the southern hemisphere to the top of the northern one has left its mark on the country. Old continental fragments have joined newer ones and volcanic activity has laid down new layers.
Not only is the imprint of the short moment clearly visible, but also the infinitely long time leaves its easily readable traces everywhere: The fleeting rings in the water after the drop that a second ago became so heavy that it had to fall. The regular rhythm of the waves is imprinted and read in the sand, always in new and unique patterns that are universal and recognizable. The clear belt of the tide on the coastal rocks. The moraine mound, which is still being pushed up in front of the glacier tongue. The decoration of the rocks by lichens over the centuries. The persistent and insistent gnawing of the ice on the mountainside and the scour stripes on the rock surface. The blasts of frost and the roundness of the pebbles on the bottom of the river. The fissure formations of the faults and the distinctive drawings of the intrusions in the rock surface. The fantastic architecture of the columnar basalt. The experience of these clear traces gives me the feeling of looking at the hands on the dial of the globe.
Observation is followed by wonder.
Being able to see the landscape being formed is an enriching natural experience that puts both time and life into perspective.
This photographic narrative is intended as a starting point for experiences and reflection on time and life, and its conditions, on a very large scale.

Forord til INUA

Når jeg færdes i naturen, er jeg optaget af de spor, der vidner om tidens gang. Tidens korte og lange intervaller afspejles omkring os i det store og det små. Tydeligst oplever jeg sporene efter tiden og naturens kræfter, når jeg færdes i den grønlandske natur.

Grønland er et helt unikt sted i verden. Ikke alene skaber de klimatiske forhold en særegen natur, men også rent geologisk er landet noget ganske særligt. De ældste klipper i verden findes i Grønland. Og den tektoniske vandring fra bunden af den sydlige halvkugle til toppen af den nordlige har sat sit præg på landet. Gamle kontinentstumper har føjet sig til nyere og vulkansk aktivitet har lagt nye lag på.

Ikke bare det korte øjebliks aftryk står tydeligt, også den uendeligt lange tid sætter sine let aflæselige spor overalt: De flygtige ringe i vandet efter den dråbe, der for et sekund siden blev så tung, at den måtte falde. Bølgeslagets regelmæssige rytme afsættes og aflæses i sandet, altid i nye og unikke mønstre, der er universelle og genkendelige. Tidevandets tydelige bælte på kystens klipper. Morænevolden, der lige nu stadig skubbes op foran gletsjertungen. Lavernes dekorering af stenen gennem århundreder. Isens vedvarende og insisterende gnaven i fjeldsiden og skurestriberne på klippefladen. Frostens afsprængninger og rullestenenes rundhed på bunden af elven. Forkastningernes sprækkedannelser og intrusionernes markante tegninger i klippefladen. Søjlebasaltens fantastiske arkitektur. Oplevelsen af disse tydelige spor giver mig en fornemmelse af at se på viserne på klodens urskive.

Iagttagelsen følges af undren.

At kunne se landskabet dannes, er en berigende naturoplevelser, der sætter både tiden og livet i perspektiv.

Denne fotografiske fortælling er tænkt som et afsæt for oplevelser og refleksion over tiden og livet, og dets vilkår, i den helt store skala.
