Present exhibition
SPECIAL EXHIBITION: Bird 2025 from September 13, 2025 to January 11, 2026 61 artists and artist groups from Denmark and abroad will show their bird works at the Johannes Larsen Museum. The exhibition shows new bird art that will blow the audience away with interesting ideas about what bird art can and should be today. The works in the exhibition range widely, with installations, light art, photography, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, painting and works in which sound plays a crucial role.
Birds have always been a focal point at Møllebakken in Kerteminde. The painter Johannes Larsen was a master at drawing and painting birds, and he was also known as the “Bird Painter”. Birds are also in focus at the Johannes Larsen Museum today. Now, among other things, as a triennial, where artists from both Denmark and abroad offer bird art in all its forms. This year's bird calls resulted in no less than around 1,450 bird artworks. From these, a jury has now selected the works that will be included in the exhibition. The jury consisted of visual artist Maja Lisa Engelhardt, chairman of the Bird Protection Foundation Martin Iversen and curator Marianne Ager from the Brandts Art Museum.
